Patrick Rubinstein
Patrick Rubinstein was born in 1960 in Paris.
His childhood left a lasting mark on him and would later nourish
his artistic language. Paris was then resonating with British rock,
cinema, and American pop culture. He grew up in a family that
made him highly aware of art. He inherited his passion for cinema
from his mother, and an inventive spirit from his father, who was the
first to introduce Patrick to the techniques of kinetic art.
At the age of 18, he sold his first work of art. It was only many years
later that Rubinstein perfected his technique and artistic language,
leading to the internationally recognized body of work he is known
for today. His work is represented in numerous galleries around the
world, as well as in museums such as POPA (Porrentruy Optical
Art, Switzerland), the Maurice and Paul Marciano Foundation in Los
Angeles, and the Copelouzos Art Museum in Athens. In recognition
of the museum-quality dimension of his practice, he was invited
on two occasions, in 2022 and 2025, by the Dalí Paris Museum to
present monumental, museum-specific works conceived expressly
for these exhibitions.
By founding his own movement, “Kinetic Op Art,” he is considered
one of the pioneers of contemporary kinetic art. Through his three-
view paintings, he creates a dynamic visual experience, actively
engaging the viewer, who must move around the artwork to activate
its optical transformations. A multi-talented and polymorphous
artist, Rubinstein is known for exploring a wide range of themes.
With a unique approach and creative vision, he draws from figurative
art, pop art, geometric abstraction, and surrealism, merging these influences into baroque and kinetic compositions.
Playing with shapes, colors, materials, and movement, the artist continues to explore new creative horizons and to surprise the viewer with ever-evolving forms. His constant drive for experimentation has naturally led him toward sculpture, extending his kinetic language into three-dimensional space. Above all, Patrick Rubinstein remains an unclassificable artist, in perpetual evolution.

il suo linguaggio artistico. Parigi all'epoca risuonava di rock britannico,
cinema e cultura pop americana. È cresciuto in una famiglia che
lo ha reso profondamente sensibile all'arte. Ha ereditato la passione per il cinema
